During our visit to Boston in August 2023, Vince, Parker, and I were exploring the city while waiting for Parker’s friends to catch up with us. We decided to grab a couple of beers, and the Sam Adams Taproom was conveniently nearby. Although we usually visit smaller breweries, we figured it would be fun to check out this iconic spot.
Location
The Sam Adams Taproom is located in the heart of Boston, making it an easy stop for anyone exploring the city. It’s within walking distance of several popular attractions, so you can easily incorporate a visit to the taproom into your sightseeing itinerary. We didn’t have any trouble finding it, and there were plenty of parking garages and public transportation options nearby.
First Impressions
The taproom has a sleek, modern design with a lively atmosphere. It’s spacious and well-lit, with plenty of seating options, including tables, high-tops, and bar seating. One cool feature we noticed right away was the built-in phone chargers at each table. You can just set your phone down and let it charge while you enjoy your beer.
Drinks
We sampled a few different beers during our visit. Here’s what we thought:
- The Real Dill: This unique beer contains pickle brine and has a distinctive pickle flavor. I tried a sample and thought it was pretty good, but I don’t think I could drink a whole glass of it.
- Sam Adams Lager: Vince went with the classic Sam Adams Lager. He said it was good, but I thought it was a bit boring compared to the other options.
- Vacation Sam: Blackberry Scoop: I chose this milkshake IPA with blackberries and lactose. It was delicious and had a nice balance of sweetness and hoppiness.
- Sour Hour: For my second round, I tried this fruited kettle sour. The menu mentioned blackberry and marionberry, but I didn’t pick up a strong fruit flavor. It was definitely sour, though!
- Brick Red Ale: Vince’s second beer was the Brick Red Ale. I took a sip but wasn’t a fan, as you can see by my face in the photo gallery.
Food
The Sam Adams Taproom has a snack bar that offers treats like pretzels, tater tots, and brats. However, we were planning to have dinner at Quincy Market, so we didn’t try any of the food during our visit.
Service
The staff at the Sam Adams Taproom were friendly and attentive. They were happy to answer any questions we had about the beers and made sure we had everything we needed.
Kids and Dogs
The Sam Adams Taproom doesn’t appear to be dog-friendly. It’s a great spot for adults to enjoy a beer, but it might not be the best choice if you’re looking for a kid-friendly brewery.
Final Thoughts
If you’re exploring Boston and looking for a convenient spot to sample some iconic Sam Adams beers, the Sam Adams Taproom is definitely worth a visit. The lively atmosphere and unique beer options make it a fun stop, even if you typically prefer smaller breweries. Just keep in mind that it’s indoors and not dog-friendly, so plan accordingly. We enjoyed our visit and would happily stop by again the next time we’re in the city.
