Crooked Crab Brewing Company in Odenton, MD

July 17, 2023

Hey there, hoppy travelers and craft beer enthusiasts! When I search for “breweries near me” on my phone, I’m lucky to get a page full of results! Before we hit the road for the summer, we wanted to give some insight to some of our favorites. This time, we landed at the delightful Crooked Crab Brewing Company in Odenton, MD. Get ready to join us on a flavor-filled experience as we dive into the world of unique brews, tasty eats, and a fun atmosphere!

Crooked Crab has 36 taps, and they usually have at least a dozen beer varieties available. You want hoppy? They have hoppy. You want something sour? They have it. Looking for something dark? They probably have it.

In addition to beer, Crooked Crab serves mead from Township Meadery. I love me some mead, but I haven’t tried any of those just yet. Maybe next time!

Tasting Round 1: Punchlines and Pies

Our taste adventure began with a bang as we ordered Crooked Crab’s Double Apple Pie a la Mode Punchline. Oh boy, this one was a winner! It’s a tasty and sour concoction with the delightful essence of apple pie, complemented by a dash of cinnamon. Vince tried to sneak a sip, but I couldn’t resist the temptation to savor it all! Trust us; this brew is a must-try.

Vince, ever the adventurer, opted for the Double Key Lime Pie Punchline. He gave it a thumbs up, stating, “It’s good.” I’ve tried it before, and boy, it’s tart and tangy like a key lime pie distilled into a beer. Crooked Crab surely knows how to craft some punchline magic. Vince confirmed that you can taste the lime, making it an easy-to-drink delight!

Filling Up on Flavorful Bites: Pizza and Wings

As our taste buds danced with delight, we indulged in some tasty treats. The Pepperoni Pizza was simply scrumptious, although we thought a bit more pepperoni wouldn’t hurt. Next time, we’ll be sure to order extra!

We couldn’t resist trying the Buffalo Wings, cooked in the brick fire oven. I personally prefer crispy fried wings, but these were finger-licking good! While we enjoyed both the ranch and Blue Cheese dips, it was tough to decide which one was better. It seemed like they were made fresh in-house, giving them that extra kick of yumminess.

Tasting Round 2: Seasonal Sips and Classic Lagers

Round two brought us two more delicious brews. The Rain Boots Watermelon Saison stole the show with its flowery and light notes. Refreshing like a summer breeze, this one is perfect for warm days. Vince remarked, “While the watermelon isn’t prominent, it’s still good.”

Meanwhile, Vince opted for the True American, a basic lager. Though it didn’t have any flashy frills, it delivered a delightful taste, and Vince said, “It’s delicious. I’ll definitely have it again. A good lager choice!”

The Atmosphere and More: Exploring Crooked Crab Brewing Co.

With bellies full of great food and taste buds still tingling, we soaked in the atmosphere. Crooked Crab boasts ample seating with tables and several high tops (which I, the shorter one, find amusingly challenging to climb into!). The brewery has two sides, old and new, both open and accommodating. It’s the perfect way to keep the crowd spread out and comfortable. This is a popular place on the weekends, so if you plan to go try to get there early to snag a table, because it can get crowded.

Parking was a breeze this time, but we learned from past visits that it can get crowded—a testament to the brewery’s popularity and excellence!

What a day! We started at @flyingacefarm for lunch What a day! We started at @flyingacefarm for lunch. Their brisket was really good, but why has nobody told me about custard filled cornbread before?! I'm mad that I'm just finding out about it at 50! We also got some banana pudding, and it was delicious. The cider and mango colada sour were pretty good, and Vince liked the black forest porter, but we weren't fans of the cucumber melon hard seltzer.

After lunch, we went to @adroittheory, apparently for second dessert! I saw they had several sours on their website and knew we had to try it while we were in the area. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The Hi-C sour was tangy, and the Soulless ginger beer had absolutely no soul (but lots of ginger flavor). The Funboy (raspberry vanilla dreamsicle) and Division (banana pudding + white chocolate) were sweet and fruity. We had a hard time deciding which one to take home in a crowler! I voted for both, but we ended up with a crowler of Funboy. Local friends, hit me up if you want to try some Sunday night!
